I am the guest artist at Hibernation Arts, 17 Peter Street in Orillia for the month of January & Febuary.

My name is Bob Broom. I have been interested in art from the time of my first memories. As a child I was always sketching, usually cars, and in highschool I began oil painting, portraits of musical personalities of the time. I studied Visual Arts at the newly opened Northern College of Art in Sault Ste. Marie and Illustration at Sheridan College in Brampton. I was introduced to printmaking and photography and this served to broaden the scope of my works. I never made art my career but rather kept it as a beloved and treasured hobby, if you will. I have continued drawing and painting throughout my life and enjoy self portraiture, landscapes and abstract painting.

I enjoy the medium of acrylics and, although I don’t have the wherewithal to do any printmaking, it is nonetheless a form of artistic expression I am very fond of. I am particularly fond of pen and ink and admire the fairy tale illustrators, primarily Arthur Rackham. I am also very impressed by the printmaking of Albrecht Durer and William Blake. My favourite painters are Tom Thompson, The Group of Seven and Claude Monet. The painting that impresses the most is Guernica by Pablo Picasso. I continue to enjoy experimenting with various forms of painting and pen and ink. I am challengedby the various qualities of light troughoout the day and the effects ofstreetlights on forest shapes.
